I went down to Santa Cruz today to check out the Community Seed garage sale. I'm glad I didn't get up early to do so, because that was a complete waste of time. Having driven to Santa Cruz, though, I wanted to do *something*, so I went to the Boardwalk. $2 parking meter + $6 saltwater taffy + $2.90 pretzel + $4.50 one ride on the Giant Dipper = a slightly silly amount of money, but I had a nice time. I thought it was going to be cold and foggy, but it was really quite pleasant, not too warm or cold. There were a bunch of seals sunning themselves on one of the landings off the Municipal Wharf. Most of those pictures didn't turn out so well because the sun reflecting off the light-coloured landing totally blew out the highlights, so if you want to see them, you'll have to "go up to gallery" from one of the ones below (which are just a selection, anyway):
P.S. I knew the band Bethany Curve was from Santa Cruz, but I had no idea they had named themselves after a street there. I drove by Bethany Curve (that's the street designation, like Drive or Road... "Curve") today while trying to locate the right turn for Wilkes Circle. Craziness! Which is to say, Santa Cruzness! Which is the same thing! (she says with affection)
In other news, I am somewhat more of a redhead now than I was this morning. I'm not sure if it will turn up in pictures; I picked a colour of dye that is relatively close to my natural colour, but a bit darker and redder. I'm actually not sure whether I like it, as it turned out a bit cooler-toned on my actual hair than it looked on the swatch. It's "permanent", so I'm going to be stuck with it for a while. (Even "permanent" washes out eventually, IME, but since I only wash my hair about once a week, dye lasts 3-5 times as long on me as it does on most people.)
