Icons meme from
bohemianspirit:

I like foxes. I am tentatively arriving at the conclusion that my "spirit animal" (take that phrase however you like -- there are many shades of meaning between "fetch", "totem", "power animal", etc that are outside the scope of this post) is a fox. Keyword on this is "general (fox)".

Malkavian antitribu logo from Vampire: the Masquerade. For those for whom that sentence explains nothing, in short, Malkavians are the crazy vampires (symbol thereof being the cracked mirror), and antitribu means they are in the opposing political faction from the bulk of their clan -- in the case of the Malks, that means the Sabbat, who are, er, to cut a very long and complicated story short, the bad guys (the worse guys?). Keyword on this icon is "crazy contrary (malk antitrib)".

What's to explain? Says it all I think. This was the first icon I made a few months ago when I came down hard with Snape fever. I was always a fan of the character (yes books too, not only movies), but I'm one of those sad chumps who really fell in love after Deathly Hallows. Keyword "snape (beautiful)".

Hee hee. This comes from this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PrZQIayUnbA (or search for "cloud song", a bunch of people have uploaded it), which is a cute song and drawing sequence based on Final Fantasy VII. This little critter is a Tonberry, which is a lizard-like dude with a lantern, knife and cloak who takes one step towards you every round, has a gazillion hit points, and if he gets up even with your party, stabs one of you instantly dead with that little knife. Also they have a "karma" attack with the lantern, whereby the more total damage the target themself has inflicted on monsters, the more damage they take in turn. Keyword on this icon "love squee (tonberry)".

This icon just tickled my fancy. ZOMG! WAFFLES! I don't think there is any explaining it, at all. Keyword "weird (zomg waffles)". (If you are a MSTie: Viking Women and the Sea Serpent, wot?)

Also nothing much to explain here. This picture of Alec Hopkins as young Severus was just too gorgeous to leave alone. The cap that's out on the net right now is all muddy, so I spent some time cleaning it up to make this. Gets used on fics or comments that involve a younger Severus mostly, although a few hours ago I misused it on a comment talking about sexual turn-ons, which I'm sure my subconscious thought was a very amusing thing to make me do. Keyword "snape (young severus)".
Another all-purpose icon. This is from Thalia Took's "The Star" tarot art. I like celestial imagery in general and particularly the stars in the hair, here. Keyword "general (thalia star)".

Well, yeah. But you could also say that about the fox: "It's a fox. What's to explain?" Hoot. I picked this icon because I loved the caption you put on it, and wanted to know the story behind it, what it means to you, stuff like that. Likewise with the young Snape icon. (I kinda wish the actor playing young Snape also played 30-something Snape, but I guess he'd have been too young back when the movies started.) I was just wondering if there were some deep angst-ridden empathic musings behind the selection of that screencap.
The Star card is one of my favorite Tarot cards, and that is a beautiful rendition of it. I love the meaning of the Star: hope and healing. Kinda fits in discussing Severus Snape, dontcha think? :-D

Hm, okay. I'm not sure I can explain very well.
The caption is not a quote from anything else; it's just a phrase that struck me bam in the brain one evening in late August. Although I have been a fan of the books since I first read them (which wasn't 1997 -- I was a little late on this bandwagon, although in any event I had read SS/PS before the movie came out in 2001), it wasn't until after DH (and to a lesser degree the OotP movie) that I actually dove into fandom. Something about the combination was a shot in the arm and my regular-fan appreciation for Snape cracked and bloomed into a real love.
As for the picture, I had collected a few caps from OotP and something about the gaze in that one (which sat as my desktop picture for a while) struck me as incredibly tender and beautiful. I was just getting deeper into reading discussion and meta and the like at the time, and dipping my toes into fanfic, and the idea struck me that people who insisted there was nothing to like about Snape and that he had no real beauty in him just didn't get it. In short, I gave up and surrendered to pleasant obsession.
"Likewise with the young Snape icon."
He's just bloody gorgeous. I have a thing for mysterious, brilliant boys in black with black hair falling into their dark eyes. ;)
It's kind of a special case, really. Besides the whole "urge to protect and heal wounded boy" thing that many people have, Snape pushes certain buttons for me that he probably doesn't for other people because of ... er.. some mystical woo-woo shit that doesn't really belong on a public post. Suffice it to say that he is an expression of a certain archetype buried deep in my psyche.
Like any Snape fan, I was frustrated by the gutting of the Snape's Worst Memory scene in the OotP movie. Because the scenes with young Snape are so frustratingly short, there's only a few pictures of him out there, and most of them are the same production stills over and over. The stuff in the film is distorted and full of (visual) mud and shadows. This particular capture -- I'll show you it in full --
-- just took my breath away, but it was virtually unusable as is. So taking the time to learn how to correct such an image so that I could use it was a bit of an act of devotion, if you like.
"(I kinda wish the actor playing young Snape also played 30-something Snape, but I guess he'd have been too young back when the movies started.)"
Yeah, I think he's only just now in his mid-twenties. I hope they keep him for Repentant Death Eater Snape in DH with the scene with Dumbledore, though. Assuming they leave that in, since they've succeded in cutting so much else down to just "Harry-Potter-flavoured action film" *grumbles*.
Alec Hopkins looks totally different out of the Snape getup, btw. My fashion advice to him would be to dye his hair black and invest in some black clothing. ;)
