1. It's raining. Again. Still. This is a Good Thing. (See also: increasingly scarce "federal water" in California central valley.) For once I hope it rains all damn through PantheaCon later this week and into the next.
2. I'm thinking of a name change. Again. Still. This is an Annoying Yet Ongoing Thing.
3. Loving the broadband. It's still painlessly working for me and
enotsola and, as far as I know, my mother (
catherinelaurel -- I keep forgetting she has an LJ too, although I don't think she knows my username and I've asked her not to probe). My father has had some Issues relating to his NIC (we think) that we still haven't sorted out, but that's not AT&T's fault.
4. Preliminary calculation on my taxes predicts a total of $5100 in refund from state and federal combined. This is wrong in the sense that I should not have allowed it to happen, but what with my main investment account being in the negative this year (thus, Uncle Sam's zero interest beats a negative) and my expectation that
enotsola would in fact manage to get employed and have a second income (and thus the taxes would level out because we'd be in a higher owing percentage), I wasn't that fussed about changing it until I actually saw what happened. Things economic now being what they are, I think I should expect just one income for some time yet, which means I need to get off my duff and change my withholding, so that I get to, you know, use that $5100 myself in the meantime. $425 a month is, uh, significant, even if what will likely happen to most of it is getting put in the account with the least pathetic interest (1.5%).
5. That said, it's a sort of windfall this particular next few months, which will hopefully finally result in a laptop for us plus a set of Ravenclaw robes for me and Slytherin ones for
enotsola, who is being very indulgent both on the costuming and on my squee about going to slash pairing meetups a Azkatraz.
6. Would it have killed the PantheaCon staff to have included the workshop descriptions in the schedule PDF on the site? I understand that coding it in HTML might have been a hassle, but seriously. Just carve the relevant chunk out of your electronic version that I know you have and save it as a PDF. That seems to be what you did anyway, given the looks of the brief schedule. At least for Friday would have been nice.
