It rained a teeny bit on Saturday and has been raining a good bit of today, about five hours in various strengths (generally none of these passing showers here; if it gets up the gumption to rain at all, it tends to keep going for a while) and OMG IT SMELLS SO GOOD OUT THERE.

Keep in mind this is the first real rain in oh... five? six? months. But that's how it rolls around here. We may get a couple wet days in September but mostly you shouldn't expect rain until at least Halloween. (We tend to an "Indian summer".)

(Note to weather: Please to keep to this time of year being mostly dry on the 24th-27th, though. Camping in the rain = do not want.)

but YAY RAIN SMELL

I love that smell! And I actually got to smell it this week! We *finally* had several days of rain after a very long, dry summer (we're 20" down from where we're supposed to be this year) so I know just how you feel.

It's cracking me up to see you posting about rain here, and a friend in Fremont posting about rain over on Facebook, and we're having this warm and sunny weather up here in Portland...

Isn't it wonderful?! We hadn't had rain in months and then Thursday and Friday of last week we actually got some. It was just the best thing ever. The smell, the coolness it brought, the way the grass and trees perked right up (most of them have been dead all summer long). Sigh... I love rain.

We had gorgeous, amazing thunderstorms up on the hill this weekend. I woke up Saturday morning at dawn to lightning and thunder crashing on top of our heads, so close and intense that it made my whole house vibrate and rattle. I love storms!

Yeah Friday night/early Saturday morning. I heard noise, and was like... "Is that rain?" - it was. And then there was a bright flash of light later, and I'm like "Was that lightning?" Cause this would only be the second time I've ever seen lightning in the bay area. The sound of thunder came like 20 seconds later. It was so exciting! Then I jumped on a plane to Europe.

I heard that it rained a whole bunch the other day after I left. Coincidentally it's been raining a lot here in Belgium too, but no lightning. (It's the same kind of whimpy drizzle that we get in the bay area.)
