I mailed something at the post office before I came to work, and there was a sign behind the desk that said "No mail to Ireland." The clerk was oh-so-helpful when I asked why not, with "I just got in. I have no idea. Maybe they haven't been paying their duties." Does anyone have any clue?

Why are there signs saying "NO FOOD OR DRINK" right next to the soda vending machines in the parking garage?

  1. Grab the book nearest to you, turn to page 18, find line 4. Write down what it says: Hmm, nearest to me... see, I live in the videotape part of this library, and there aren't actually many books nearby... Okay, here we go, "Tips & Tricks" for Macromedia Director 4.0 (why I have this, I have no idea; we don't have the software in this lab): "...is a good way around this." (Context: "Once a standard sound file begins playing back, Director has no way to track timing within the file. Useing sound-only digital movies is a good way around this.")

  2. Stretch your left arm out as far as you can. What do you touch first? A piece of lavender/purple paper which happens to be sitting on my desk.

  3. What is the last thing you watched on TV? Err... I sort of paid some attention to Adult Swim on Wednesday night.

  4. WITHOUT LOOKING, guess what the time is: 12:47.

  5. Now look at the clock, what is the actual time? 12:58. Not too bad.

  6. With the exception of the computer, what can you hear? Counting the keyboard clicking as part of "the computer", I can also hear the ticking of one of the battery-powered wall clocks in the lab. I can vaguely hear the ventilation system if I listen for it. We're closed on Spring Break, you see, and I'm the only one here right now.

  7. When did you last step outside? what were you doing? About half an hour ago I was coming in to work.

  8. Before you came to this website, what did you look at? Counting friends page as "this website", nothing. My friends page is usually the first thing I check when I fire up my browser. If you mean on the computer as a whole, I was writing some signs in Word to be posted on the tape shelves about various tapes that can't be checked out this quarter.

  9. What are you wearing? Black waffle-thermal-texture shirt with sparklies and glittery blue star on the chest, black slacks (yes really! I own a couple pairs), black Docs, fuschia bra (hey, it fits, beggars can't be choosers), black socks and underwear. Silver sevenstar pendant on silver chain, silver "triquetra" Celtic-knot stud earrings, silver bond-ring on left hand, silver ring with lepidolite cabochon on right, barbell through tongue with one blue ball-end and one purple. Glasses. One hairclip on the left side holding back an annoying bit of wisp. I think that's everything.

  10. Did you dream last night? Yes, at least once (I hate it how the dream closest to waking up usually obliterates any previous ones completely). It was pretty weird. I wrote it down on paper and need to append it to my dream-count entry from the 23rd of March.

  11. When did you last laugh? Out loud? When I read this website last night.

  12. What is on the walls of the room you are in? An Alfred Hitchcock poster over my head, which actually belongs to the previous owner of the cube, but he's never come back for it. Some various Latino artwork posters in my neighbour's cube. A printout of a piece of digital art I did in college. A couple calendars. Wall clocks. Some signs about the lab rules saying you can't play games. A complete printout of the District network policy (like anyone reads that). A sign saying the printers are turned off 10 minutes before closing. Uh. Not much else...

  13. Seen anything weird lately? I'd say "see earlier this entry" (no mail to Ireland, etc) but that's pretty weak. Umm... actually I can't say that I have. Is that a problem I need to fix?

  14. Last movie you saw? Blrg... The last thing I was in a theater for was Return of the King. Not counting MST3K, I can't remember what I last watched on tape or DVD. Probably Fellowship of the Ring or something but I'm really not sure.

  15. If you became a multi-millionaire overnight, what would you buy first? House. No, make that plural. Houses (one around here, one over by [livejournal.com profile] enotsola). And maybe some property I can rent out so I have steady income and don't dry up the multi-millions.

  16. Tell me something about you that I don't know: That would awfully depend on who's reading this, and in many cases the things people don't know are the things I don't want them to know, so.

  17. If you could change one thing about the world, regardless of guilt or politics, what would you do? I'm torn between a number of things. If I could wave a wand and restore most of Earth's natural glory, re-foresting all the areas humans have decimated and such, I think I might want to do that. On the other hand, chances are we'd only tear it all up again, so maybe what I should change is the desire of people to destroy each other and their environment.

  18. Do you like to dance? Some, but I'm pretty self-conscious about it unless I have a drink or two in me in the appropriate environment (i.e., club). I don't tend to dance at concerts or parties, when I go to them.

  19. George Bush: is he a power-crazy nutcase or some one who is finally doing something that has needed to be done for years? He's someone acting out the desires of some other power-crazy nutcase, I think.

  20. Imagine your first child is a girl, what do you call her? [same question for a boy] Well, setting aside the fact that I am not going to have any children, I'm fond of the names Michelle and Michael. Real creative, eh?

  21. Would you ever consider living abroad? In a temporary sense, probably not. I feel weird being away from home, wherever that is, for extended periods of time. I am going to be emigrating to Canada, but that's "moving" rather than "living abroad", even though it's "abroad" in relation to where I currently live.

Saw you on my friendsfriends page
