Seriously, they were built for Mars. Randall Munroe's got it wrong from panel 2: "88 days until I'm home" Home? Like Earth is their home? Come on, they were literally made for roving around Mars!
As a technoshaman and/or computer whisperer, I'm firmly in the camp that says Spirit is going "Wheeee! I'm rolling around Mars!" And Opportunity is going, "My wheels hurt and I'm tired after a job well done, but... I'm doing science and I'm still alive!"
