Okay, so the power went off yesterday afternoon at about 12:45.

According to the difference between my alarm clock (electric) and my battery powered clock, it came back on at about 9:30 this morning. Fortunately, we have a generator, which we used to run the refrigerators (the primary thing, so the food wouldn't spoil) and some lights and the microwave (dinner). My dad managed to work out some way to power the furnace blower with it for a while, so he heated the house up to like 75 degrees for a bit, since we weren't going to have heat all night. (The heat is from gas, but the blower is electric!)

Me, I sat in front of the fireplace tending a fire (for heat, as well as entertainment) and reading Vampire and Werewolf from about 5:30 til 12:30 am. (I hadn't read Vampire for a while, and never read the 3rd edition book all the way through; I'd never given more than a cursory read to the Werewolf book, and though it's a bit quaint, I'm now rather sorry I bought the first edition used - it's really badly organized - although now I get the "Page XX" joke in the Malkavian clanbook.) Oddly enough, reading Werewolf is helping me organize my thoughts on the physical and spirit realms by giving me an example to jump off of.

The rain and wind were... well, I described what was going on during the daylight hours as a "monsoon" to [livejournal.com profile] enotsola when I was on the phone with him for several hours while the power was out. Rain going at like a 70 degree angle (where 90 would be straight sideways) and swirling around changing direction every 2 seconds in addition to being the heaviest downpour I have ever seen was pretty scary. I dunno how fast the winds were in miles per hour but they again blew down the fence that had been blown down in the last storm in early November, this time in the opposite direction (into the neighbours' yard), despite the fact that it had been braced with diagonal braces to its main posts, and these were bolted to broad stakes that were driven about two feet into the ground. Ahem. Nature 1, Man 0, once again.

It also went on to thunder and lightning last night, which is pretty rare, and they're predicting it may well do that again tonight. So we bought more wood and more gas for the generator. *sighs* I was ok with the original prediction that it was going to rain from Friday through Wednesday, or whatever that was. We hadn't been getting our usual rainfall, so that was fine. But ecch. At least it's not that cold - usually we're at or near freezing most nights by now, and last night, despite (or rather, because of) the weather, we were like 20 degrees F above freezing.

At least it's not North Carolina, though.

An update: I am unthrilled (a marvelous word I've seen [livejournal.com profile] tyrsalvia use a few times lately). The weather was quite reasonable today - it rained some, and some not, and was cloudy and icky and a bit windy. Fine. But the power went off again somewhere before 4:00. We sat around for a while wondering if it was going to come back, and it flickered a bit (like some incandescent lights would work, some fluorescents would flicker, but overall bad mojo and we unplugged things to avoid electrical damage). So we finally concluded it was going to be a bozo and went to the store to get some more firewood and something hot to eat for dinner. When we came back the power was back and it hasn't gone off again since *crosses fingers* but I am just rather peeved still.
