I am currently sipping Douglas Fir eau de vie* mixed with elderflower liqueur (St. Germain), thinned with a little water. The eau de vie is green (naturally green, that is) and the liqueur is pale gold; the water made the mixture "louche" a little, so the overall visual effect is like a weak absinthe. It tastes, well, sort of like you might think: herbal, sweet, and flowery. All things considered, I feel kind of like I am having a more-fey-than-thou moment.
The eau de vie was a pricey gamble which fortunately turned out not to be basically upscale PineSol, as I feared it might. It does have that piney-fresh sort of evergreen flavour, but it's subtle and it doesn't assault your eyes and sinuses like the vaguely similiar flavours in gin. (Not that I dislike gin, but it doesn't play well with many others.)
* Most elvish-sounding distilled spirit evar or what?
