I, too, was curious about the possible identity of the story "Mr Squeers" was lifted from. A quick Google reveals that "Mr Squeers" is the name of the headmaster in Charles Dickens' Nicholas Nickleby. Tho' I must say that it sounds like the sort of a name a little old lady would give her cat. "Oh, yes, Mr. Squeers just wuvs his catnip, doesn't he Mr. Squeers?" :D
