friday five? whazzat?

First three all in one: Do you wear any jewelry? What kind? How often do you wear it? Do you have any piercings?

I have pierced ears but rarely wear earrings in them because 1) I never stay satisfied with a style for long, and haven't found anything I can put in and leave in and 2) I'm constantly catching my long hair on them when I do.

I wear a silver sevenstar pendant on a silver chain around my neck. I sometimes take it off if it seems to be getting in the way of other neck-adornment such as a collar, but generally it's always on.

I wear a plain silver band ring that I made myself on my left middle finger. enotsola has the matching one, which fits the same finger on him. I didn't plan it that way - I even had to guess as to his ring size when I made them - but it's very neat that it worked out like that. In a way, they are our engagement or wedding rings. I almost never take it off, usually just for a moment when I'm washing my hands with bar soap because I get annoyed by the way the ring will scrape a little soap off the bar.

I occasionally wear a leather band bracelet with spikes or ankh studs on it, but usually only when I'm dressed up particularly goth for something. The buckles with which these bracelets are fastened get in the way of resting my wrists on the desk when I type.

I have had two chokers (one just silver metal stars, the center three of which were set with crystals; the other was anodized blue alumunium chain with dangly bits) that I used to wear constantly, because chokers look good on me, but I keep breaking them, and they definitely get in the way of collar-wearing, and I can't seem to keep one that I like, and blah blah blah.

I also have a pierced tongue and what's in that currently is a straight 14g barbell with fuschia glittery ends that also happen to be UV reactive. I also have my original piercing jewelry, the steel end barbell, which I never wear so I don't know why I keep it (unlike most, the barbell is hollow and the balls have the male part of the screw threads - it traps saliva and bacteria in quite icky ways and can't be cleaned very well), and a set of ends which are blue plastic and the top one has a mini steel barbell through it (this one is also UV reactive, but gives me a bit of a lisp). I had a silver glitter set of ends but they weren't of good quality and I cracked one in half. (I don't play with the piercing that much, so it wasn't that I bit it hard or anything - I don't really know what happened.)

Any tattoos? Where?

On my lower belly, around my navel, I have a tattoo of a connect-the-dots style map of the constellation Draco. The brightest star, Gamma Draconis or Eltanin, is marked in purple instead of black.

On the back of my neck, just below the collar line, I have a four-letter word (actually the first half of an eight-letter word) which refers to my beloved. He has the matching second half of the word tattooed on himself in the same place. The plan is to have both words completed, so that we both have the whole word, when we are finally living together or married.

Any plans for the weekend?

To try to get my sleep schedule back on track so I can get up and go to work. I stayed up til about 7 am last night (does that even make sense?), and woke up this afternoon at about 2:45, having turned off and gone back to sleep after (without memory) both my 11:00 and 11:10 alarm clocks. So I was hours late to work but there's no one else here to care (it's the last day of the winter break).

Making a simple band ring is actually really easy. I learned how to do it in a high school arts class. Between that class (uh... 1992? 1993?) and when I made these rings (2000) I didn't make any other jewelry, and I remembered how to do it. It's not as hard as setting a stone (even a cabochon - which we also did) or making a "pierced" ring (which we also did) or a cast ring (which we didn't do). Since no one wants to see me describe it in my livejournal, why don't you shoot me a mail and I'll let you in on ze great seekrit. ;)
