(try saying that ten times fast.)

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22): Please remember that you are not competing in a sprint, Virgo. You are running a marathon. You should therefore be sure to pace yourself and not be overly concerned about the fast-starters who have sped ahead of you. I also advise you to clear your beautiful mind of envy and self-doubt, as well as the pushy expectations of people who don't know the intricacies of what you're doing. Now here's the most important thing: Use your fine mind to figure out how to be motivated by pleasure, not pressure.

The line in bold was amusing because I had just gotten email from some random last night, who sounded like they had been reading my website, and wanted to offer their unsolicited negative opinions on the idea of otherkin and in particular on the things I said had led to my own awakening; on my accounts of some of my "mystical" experiences; and, for spice, said (to paraphrase) "some pagan you are" because "Everybody's Free (to Live in California)" apparently glorifies the destruction of the environment via the automobile. (It was pretty clear they were unfamiliar with filk.) After one response trying to explain myself, and getting pretty much the same again in return, I decided not to bother further, and in fact wondered why I had bothered in the first place.

The rest of this particular horoscope, though, bothers me in various un-Englishable mental areas, mainly because I know it's true that I need to do those things, but they are just nonsense to me. What do you mean, not envy other people? It's the natural response. What do you mean, put away self-doubt? Get real, now. I can't be anything but concerned about those who have "sped ahead of me", because it means that they have left me behind; we will not be able to relate as equals unless we ARE equals.

I'm assuming that "beautiful mind" does not imply paranoid schizophrenia in this context. *smirk*

I think that considering it as a marathon and not a sprint is a valid point of view.

I've been involved in some of this type stuff for decades - but that doesn't mean that I've always *actively* been involved in it, nor even that in times of activity I've always been working at peak.

Over time, one's relative depth in an area does change. I've watched some who started with me drop out and fall away, and I've watched some who didn't start when I did reach similar depth to mine - and some go deeper.

It isn't where you are Today that matters.
It is where you're Going.
