"Two bits" is slang for a 25-cent piece, originating in coins that were broken into 8 "bits".

The mockingbirds that lived outside my apartment complex in LA used to regularly imitate car alarms. At that time (early 90s) I firmly maintained that the car alarm was the official CA state bird.
