(this is essentially rhetorical - much more a statement of feeling than an actual request. in fact i would feel very creeped-out if any of you said yes, with precious few exceptions.)

My favourite implicit empiricist, Berkeley, would agree; excepting that as `esse est percepti`, the act of observing would require your existence.

But does it require my prior existence? That is, does the fact that I am observable mean that I must have already existed to be able to be observed, and that things cannot be "bootstrapped" into existing?
