*grrrr*

I'm in favour of faery events in general, and I'm willing to give the benefit of the doubt that the $75 ticket price goes to food, event space and presenter fees, and not profit (although I'd feel a lot less annoyed if some of it were for a charity). But this is just coming across to me as "pay $75 to pretend you have a clue what Faerie is about!" (srsly, "granting you one wish"? I'm picturing the many pairs of cheap fairy wings now...)

I'd be far more likely to go to the Buccaneer Ball that is mentioned. :)

One word: Salem. Says it all, I think.

The part that really made my jaw drop, actually, was:

The world-famous Hawthorne Hotel overlooks historic Salem Common.

Okay, in any other magic(k)al, mystical, pagan, or occult context, hawthorne would be just fine as a tree with mystical (and Celtic, and fey) significance. But in the context of Salem, Massachusetts? Um, jawdrop and headdesk much?

No, seriously, these people are in friggin' Salem. This doesn't bring Judge Hathorne (sometimes misspelled as Judge Hawthorne due partly to his literary descendant), immediately to mind?

I'm not upset by it. Looks like a $75 LARP/ get together, but perhaps they are trying to pass it off as something more? Inviting the fey in may indeed involve curios and costumes and play, but this seems way to official for the fey to accept any real invitations by this group, but it doesn't some off to me as a real attempt at interacting with fey or the spirit of the fey (what we could call Fey). Near the bottom of the page, they give you contact info in case you want to ask them questions (like about where the money is going to go). Another thought, while I have no problems with money, nor do I think all the fay would reject money out of hand (sometimes people of folk religions will burn offerings of money for their ancestors in the afternife anyway, and money in and of itself may have energy tied to it so a dollar earned performing music on a street corner might be perfect for the fey), I don't conceive of faerries, elves or any other worldly being in that very general grouping as wanting money as a sacrifice. If they want something in exchange (and my mind has them wanting things in exchange, fair trade, keeping things fair and even, balace), they pefer crafts or strange little doodads or food or drink or a song or poem or performance art or a pretty picture or even just the good spirit of a warm get together.

Metioned in the linked article, and that was the Mab I suddely found myself thinking of (follow the link). It seemed to fit with everything else, all things considered. A least at 12:10 AM when I should have been in bed hours ago.

Oh, ok. I thought it was actually directly linked to, like, that character was going to be one of the mains at the event. And I was ever more perplexed at the idea that that would be thought suitable.
