Did you know that the flag we think of as "the United States flag" is actually a specifically military flag, and that there is also a peacetime/civil flag?

I'm a sucker for this sort of historical detail (evidenced by reading the entire World Book through at age 10), and somehow this piece of knowledge did not take.
