Here's a few pictures that mostly ensued from farting around with the camera without reading the manual (pah! manuals! who needs 'em?) Click to see larger size.
The picture of the dog was half by surprise, so please excuse its utter crappiness. That's when I figured out how hard I needed to press the shutter button for it to actually take a picture rather than just autofocus. (Heh. Whoops.) The orchid and faucet were done in macro mode. I likes me some macro shooting! but yeah, I can see significant corner softness in macro mode. These have been cropped, so it may not be apparent. I'm kind of annoyed with the flash reflections in the altar pic, but that's to be expected. Turning the flash off resulted in shutter speeds that were too long for me to hold still for, so whatchagonnado. I like that it displays its chosen aperture and shutter speeds even in full auto mode if you use the LCD to frame the shot. That enables me to go "sure, whatever, that's fine" and streamline taking the picture if I'm satisfied, or to know if I want to switch to partial-auto mode because "no, that'll turn out way wrong for what I want to do." Woot.
So anyway, at this point I'm basically just messing around with the camera, but I'm satisfied with the sharpness of the images, and I have to agree with the professional reviewer I was reading that its colour balancing is pretty impressive. The lab, particularly, doesn't look that good in real life. I don't know if this is going to annoy me or not. Most consumers would probably be thrilled with "better than real" photographs, but I tend towards the "hey, if I want it to look like that, I'll do it myself" school of things. *shrug*

I am just peeking around your page, by the way. I did an interest search for "Robert Cochrane" and you popped up. :) I think I'm going to list you as a friend so I remember to check your page every so often. Hope that's okay! :)

A good common interest to have. :)
