I've been creating a list of the various things a replacement for me would have to be trained to do if I can manage to insert myself into Tech Services, or in any event when I resign to leave for Canada.
I've come up with 23 different things. Several of them are pretty detailed, but still. I'm amused by the number because it's 23, and because I really didn't think it was that large.

- General level WorkFlows: item types and locations, charge/discharge, investigating overdues, knowing when bills are "real", searching catalog, display user, loan periods/item policies, collecting bills (basically most things that are in the manual)
- Supervisory level WorkFlows: how to find out who an item is checked out to, last person to use it, meaning of various statuses, NOTE vs COMMENT, special due dates, where to look for various information, making new cards, editing item records, fixing tapes that show up not found, cancelling fines (and what to comment), finding items on the shelf not discharged, when to make exceptions and who can give various permissions, issuing temporary cards or "license and receipt" notes, people leaving cards a the station and other types of user comments...
- Policies regarding fines, cards, handling problem students (no card, blocked/barred, DLC cards)
- Managing printing, print cards, disks; problems with DASB cards
- How to do cash drawer (3 different forms), keeping disk money separate
- Forms for damaged items and sending them to Tech Services/etc.
- WSCH reports
- Holds for overdues and large fines
- Other reports e.g. logscan to find out who was using a computer when
- Show them the schedule, but they would probably want to work out their own way
- How to hire/terminate/raise students; signing time cards, who they go to; tracking outgo for student wages
- Computer troubleshooting and skills: profile thing, how to tell when something is wonky and needs a re-image, common Word questions (margins, paragraph alignment, spacing), multiple users problems on Macs, how to use portable drives and flash sticks, things which can be fixed by a logoff or reboot, using scanner, installing that analysis thing in Excel, doing a "best fit curve" in a graph, printing more than one slide on a page in PowerPoint, burning CDs, printing problems, network problems, Ellis issues, checking/repairing disks...
- Housekeeping tasks: sorting and formatting the lost and found, clearing document folders, repairing cards
- Doing nightly check for still-charged items
- Running lab shutdown
- Doing print requests for print cards
- Supplies we order
- Hours of various other place; people to know in DLC, BMC, Circ, TechSrv; whom to ask questions of; where other places are
- How the whole DLC tape process works, alternative sources for media
- Handling overdue notices
- Other master-copy items in folder and documents on hard drive, e.g. waiting lists, lab-information sheets...
- Involvement in VTEA process
- Fixing "bad user" reports
- Needs SIS access to 109, 408, 148; supervisory override; oml-admin pw
- Doing voicemail messages, hours signs, other signage
