You know what else I don't understand? Why resubmitting journal entries and comments that timed out or "document contains no data" now results in multiple posts when this was not the case before. >_
Sometimes (this is more visible in a browser like Opera) the "submit request" (i.e. post the content to the server) part will got through, but the pong (i.e. "here's your new page") part will time out. Then it looks like it didn't work, when the real part did.
