I saw this in [livejournal.com profile] canadaeh and was just really amused. My current plans are to go to Kitchener to live with [livejournal.com profile] enotsola eventually, but I always figure I'll come back to the west coast someday, and that likely means BC (I suppose returning to California isn't entirely out of the question, but that would be mainly if the US ever got sane).

TOP 10 REASONS TO LIVE IN BRITISH COLUMBIA
1. You don't have to worry if it is going to rain; it's already raining
2. Vancouver: 1.5 million people and two bridges to the 'burbs
3. The local hero is a pot-smoking snowboarder
4. The local wine doesn't taste like malt vinegar
5. Your $400,000 Vancouver home is 5 hours from downtown
6. You have a university with a nude beach
7. You can throw a rock and hit three Starbucks locations
8. You have a fleet of old rusted ships that you got for free from China
9. There's always some sort of forest protest going on somewhere
10. People here never get a tan; they rust

I think BC sucks.

A good chunk of the population is baby boomer age (people move there to retire), and they're very right wing and actively discriminatory.
They're in the process of privatizing their health care (much more so than the rest of Canada) - so, (assuming you'll be Canadian), it means massive issues with health care for you.
Vancouver has crazy huge problems with heroine and aids.
It's expensive.

I dunno how much privatized health care would bother me. After all, that's what I've got here. Do most Canadian employers offer no health coverage whatsoever, on the assumption that the government's is good enough? (assuming you're full time, and all that other stuff it normally takes to qualify for such) I was assuming I'd have to pay at least something for health insurance - if nothing else, I don't qualify for Ontario provincial whatever for several months after landing.

I seriously doubt I'd be actually in Vancouver - I don't like living in real cities. Anyway, I dunno. A lot could change in however many years. I imagine I'll be spending a goodly amount of time in Ontario before I went anywhere else. *shrug*
