whoa. my dad got laid off.

OMG. My dad just got laid off. This isn't as bad as it sounds; not only do we have plenty of savings to figure something else out, he's been half-hoping it would happen for several years now, as he hates the company and the people he has to work for, and has also been half-expecting it because of the various changes and mergers and whatever. The only thing really is that now he needs to work out private health insurance (not that what he got from his employer was great, because it was one of those plans where the employee had a monthly deduction as well as co-pays). But it's just so weird to me that it actually finally happened.

My brother is in almost exactly the same situation. He just called today and said that they were laying off 2,000 people at his work (yay, Bush!) and his department was going to be the first that would be hit. Oddly enough, he's kind of looking forward to it because he really wants to move back to MD where the family is.
