I have set up a kind-of-appointment to have my car's very first 6-month/5,000-mile maintenance thing done at the local Toyota dealer. This is so weird because I don't think we've ever taken any car we owned to the dealer for service of any kind. We do everything from changing oil to brake jobs to replacing radiators and head gaskets to removing and installing transmissions ourselves - pretty much anything short of actual machining of parts like brake rotors and cylinder heads (although my dad's been known to manufacture other tools and part substitutions on the fly in the garage!). However, we figured that I ought to let them do at least the first couple of maintenance things themselves just for the sake of warranty protection, so that if something goes wrong, they can't say it was my fault for not doing it right.
I wonder how much they're gonna stiff me for. Surely more than the $10 I'd spend doing it myself. Ugh.
