Yeah. "Only" $300.

Start not - nor deem my spirit fled:
In me behold the only skull
From which, unlike a living head,
Whatever flows is never dull.

I lived, I loved, I quaffed like thee;
I died: let earth my bones resign:
Fill up - thou canst not injure me;
The worm hath fouler lips than thine.

Better to hold the sparkling grape
Than nurse the earthworm's slimy brood,
And circle in the goblet's shape
The drink of gods than reptile's food.

Where once my wit, perchance, hath shone,
In aid of others' let me shine;
And when, alas! our brains are gone,
What nobler substitute than wine?

Quaff while thou canst; another race,
When thou and thine like me are sped,
May rescue thee from earth's embrace,
And rhyme and revel with the dead.

Why not -since through life's little day
Our heads such sad effects produce?
Redeemed from worms and wasting clay,
This chance is theirs to be of use.

Err... say what? Pewter is an alloy of tin, antimony and copper (modern pewter doesn't use lead) which may have first been invented in the Bronze Age and in any case was in widespread use by medieval times. Aluminum doesn't come into it, nor resin (unless you're referring to the skull itself, which is obviously a plastic of some kind?). Very common material for fantasy goblets and plates and stuff. Mrr?

*nods* Google "pewter history" or "pewter alloy" for example..

Tin and a bunch of other metal, actually.

$300 sounds a little high, but that may be for any hell experienced in putting on the skull. Pewter's normally about $6-7 a kg and then you add in any costs for machining and/or hand-crafting. Royal Selangor for instance (http://www.royalselangor.com/rs2/search.php?Search=goblet&GoButton.x=0&GoButton.y=0) offers a bunch of goblets that are around $40-$100 each.

I think it's more likely because it's an unusual item in a niche market. The skull itself is cast resin of some sort; cheap. The pewter might be worth $100 itself in terms of the crafting, I dunno. So basically it's a rip, heheh. Shudder to think if it were an actual skull - that'll run you $350-750 just for the skull, depening on the quality.

Hey - my favourite Byron poem! It was nice that that was the first thing I saw on my friends page. *grin*

A lot of Byron I just can't get through (I'm a bad little goth) but this one I really like.
