The only two quotes in my quotefile (127 pages) which contain the word "distressingly" are:

"A person can be smart. People are stupid. Big groups of people with heavy firearms are damn near braindead, but distressingly mobile."
--K'hel (someone on the truewyrm email list, but whom I have also met once or twice)

and

"In aviation, FOD means Foreign Object Damage, e.g., what happens when a jet engine sucks up a rock on the runway or a bird in flight. Finger of Death is a distressingly apt description of what this generally does to the engine."
--The Jargon File, entry for FOD.

I was searching for the former to quote it to [livejournal.com profile] saizai, but came across the latter first in the file.

You do realize the first part of the first quote is from Men in Black?

No, I didn't! Neither [livejournal.com profile] saizai nor I could trace where it really came from. He thought he'd thought of it (minus the "weapons" part); I thought K'hel had thought of it when he posted it on truewyrm. I've seen Men in Black a couple of times and I still didn't know that. Huh. Now I'll have to go rent it and watch for it, heheh.

Yip. It's during the scene on the park bench where Kay is explaining what the agency does and why it exists. But the bit about people with weapons is a later addition, or perhaps from an earlier script than what was filmed.
