Just put a different 256MB RAM card in the same slot that the other one was in when my computer went berzerk a while back and it was determined to have been caused by putting in that other card of RAM. We'll see if it berzerks again. If so, that pretty much diagnoses the slot. If not, it diagnoses the other card. I am not eager to suffer the berserkness again, but now that I know it would be cured by yanking the RAM and not by reinstalling Windows or a bad video card or anything, at least I'll have a quick solution if it occurs. *crosses fingers*

====You might need to flash the bios of the motherboard in order to be able to use the extra RAM. I would check their website and see if there is an update. (I have dealt with this before...it can be an annoyance.)

Prior almost-identical motherboard with identical BIOS had two 256MBs in it without doing so.

It may be practically identical, but it is worth a check to see if a patch for the bios came out. It also can depend on when they were shipped out.

No, I don't think that makes any sense. As I said, the BIOS is identical. In any case, if that were the issue, then it would have not recognized it, or it would have begun to have problems immediately. That was not the case. It worked normally for some time before it started doing strange things.

I have never had to flash BIOS in any computer I have ever owned to get it to work properly, and in fact have only heard horror stories from my dad about making computers inoperable that way, so I don't think it is necessary or wise.
