I'd forgotten that I would get my unused vacation time converted to pay when I leave my employment. That's about $1300 they're going to owe me if I make March 31 my last day. (true, it's taxable like all the rest, so it nets to less, but still) My dad says it's possible (though unlikely) that they will similarly owe me pay for my other two types of leave (personal leave, somewhat unlikely; sick leave, very unlikely indeed). That would be a serious bundle of cash since I'll have over five weeks' worth of sick leave by that time. I don't think I should hold my breath on that one, though. Maybe I can still afford to go to Dancing even if I do have to fly there from Toronto instead of San Francisco. (That assumes 1. that it's happening, although I haven't heard different, and 2., that I am either not yet working or that I have a rather flexible employer.)

People who were hired here before 1992 or so can get paid out for their unused sick time when they leave. There are people who have been here since I was born who have accumulated a couple thousand hours they haven't used.

Oh, to have gotten on before they cracked down on the civil service.

Wowsers. Imagine getting a year's pay like that (work year = 2080 hours). Yikes.

When I left my job of 9 years last September, I also forgot about my vacation/sick leave pay...I was surprised by the last check I got. I saved my butt! I hope you get it all, lass!

Will you be going to Pantheacon?

Well, as you may have seen, I got the visa approval last week.. Right now I am waiting on Buffalo to send my passport back to me. (actually, given transit time, I may still be waiting on it to arrive in Buffalo in the first place, but you get the idea) The actual move is going to be later this spring sometime, probably April or May.

You'll have to tell me more when a see you at P-Con. Sorry I haven't been attentive on the Faery gatherings. I was still getting my life back on track, etc.

See you soon!

Also: you mean ex-patriate, that is, one who has left their home country, but "ex-patriot" is probably also appropriate in this context (if she ever was a patriot in the first place)...

LOL! Thanks for the correction. But, in this case...Yeah...She was a diehard republican...But, now she has seen the evil of their ways and is a socialist now, LOL!
