Can anyone tell my why the size of my bookmark file about doubled when I upgraded from .9.3 to 1.0? I don't mean there's more bookmarks there (in fact there are fewer since I deleted a couple today), I just mean it takes up that much more space on the disk. This makes it rather impractical to transfer back and forth between work and home by attaching it to an email. (56K here at home, guys >_<)

Firefox now stores the site icons of sites you've visited in the bookmarks.html file (in base64 encoding, if I'm not mistaken). So a single bookmark is no longer just a single <A HREF=...> tag with extra ADD_DATE and LAST_VISITED attributes; now it's also got an ICON attribute.

As you re-visit sites in your bookmark file, it will slowly increase even further in size, as it picks up more and more icons. I know of no way to turn off this behavior.

If you still have floopy drives on both your work and home computers, though, you could just visit everything in your bookmarks file, then copy the thing onto a floppy and bring that home.

You can also pick up keychain-sized USB flash drives these days for about $30 if you look around for bargains. 64 MB is a lot of transfer capacity, unless you're shifting around multimedia or applications.

Not really needed; I carry zip disks (as both computers have the drives) if I want to download something big at work and then carry it home. The bookmarks thing happens every day though. Floppy it is, I guess.

Ahhhh. I guess this was conceived as a fix for the loss and random mixing of site icons that it used to so. C'est la vie.

"Still"? LOL. My computer at work is ca early 2001 and this one's box (although not its current mobo, HDs etc) is I think 1999. But funny you should suggest it, because I originally went from carrying them back and forth on a floppy to emailing them because I thought carrying them on a disk was too much hassle and I would frequently forget to copy the file to the disk before I shut down my computer. I guess I don't have a lot of choice now tho, if I don't want to be downloading (and worse, uploading) a half-megabyte file at home. O for DSL or cable...
