Man's view on Mount Diablo: Rename it for the Gipper

ffffffffffuuuuuuu---WHAT?

Look, I can understand that some may feel uncomfortable with things named after the Devil, although it's a time-honoured tradition all over the West. I can't think of any specific objections to changing it to Mount Miwok or Mount Ohlone (although I suppose I might think differently if I were a member of those tribes/bands!), except "why fix what ain't broke". But naming it after Ronald Reagan? And because he feels that besides "Diablo" being "derogatory and profane", the Devil is a "living person" who has not been dead at least five years and thus should also be ineligible to have monuments named after him (as Reagan was in 2005 when he first attempted this)??

And get a load of his fourth suggestion: Mount Yahweh. This perplexes me greatly. If he believes the Devil is a living person, why not God?

{Obligatory political joke}

To be fair, renaming it from Mount Diablo to Mount Reagan wouldn't actually change the name's meaning.

That was [livejournal.com profile] enotsola's perspective on it too. He said he was tempted to go commit Wikipedia vandalism and insert a note into Reagan's article that his nickname was "El Diablo".

Yeah, I was going to say that it's already named for Reagan.

*rolls eyes*
Oh why can't they leave things alone! Apparently these people don't have anything better to worry about...

This kind of stupidity is rampant. The local professional baseball team in Tampa was called "The Tampa Bay Devil Rays." Why? Because a "devil ray" is an actual animal.

But no...that was apparently too "evil" or something absurdly fucking stupid so they changed the name to just "The Tampa Bay Rays" and their logo from an actual ray to this absurdly annoying "ray of light" symbol that looks straight off some Baptist church.

Disgusting and really, really stupid.

I'm pretty sure it's because they nailed him to a tree.
