Yes, I really moved to Canada.

Yes, this has already happened (over three weeks ago, in fact).

Yes, my stuff is here and everything (except my car, which hopefully I am picking up on Tuesday the 30th).

No, I am not coming back to California any time soon, Thanksgiving (November) at the earliest (insert angst about whether people even give a shit about this).

No, I don't have my own apartment/house yet where I could be contacted. I still don't have a Social Insurance number (= SSN) so I can't legally work yet. Hopefully I should have that no later than June 12th, but until then I am an unproductive lump. Even when I have that, I doubt I am going to immediately convince a renter to rent to me, since I won't have any work history or a cosigner, so I'm guessing September, maybe. And stuff. Good vibes appreciated, since living here is not only cramped, but annoying.

May things procede quickly and smoothly for you.

Where in Canada? I'm in Toronto.

Kitchener.

Yes, we give a shit, you big silly!

Wait.

You need a Good Vibes catalog?

Date: May. 29th, 2006 09:51 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] starlightforest.livejournal.com
LOL, no. I have [livejournal.com profile] enotsola for that. And even if I wanted any of that sort of stuff, like half our friends work for Stag Shop (the local chain of "adult" stores) and could use their employee discounts.

Just curious as to why you unfriended me. If you'd rather not give an explanation, that is fine. As I said, I'm just curious.

I just found myself mostly not being very interested in your posts, since I don't know you personally.

You actually moved to Canada.
You are *so* my hero...heroine...whatever.
Good luck with everything!!
Vibes on the way! :)

Even though things are going slow, they sould get better. In the meanwhile, enjoy the respite.

cramped and annoying.. This was what you were waiting for wasn't it. You should be enjoying it for what it is now that you have it instead of already looking to the negatives.

I just mean this particular house. It's a little small for three people, never mind five and one of them being Bruce. :P

Date: May. 30th, 2006 01:39 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] azraelgrrl.livejournal.com
even still these people *Bruce* included not only let you into their home but also sponsored you ( or that was my understanding from *G* cuz it caused a major ripple when he told me as we were still dating then).

So Bruce be damned he still vouched for you and that is a damn nice thing. I am sure they would like nothing more then to have their space to themselves as well. They will be your family soon and your going to have to learn to get along with them as best you can. You might end up getting pretty lonely here with no one to surround yourself with.

No, no one in this house sponsored me. I was "skilled worker" class, in other words I got admitted on my own merits. For "family class" Gord would have had to be my sponsor (only certain relationships are close enough, aside from spouses, it's parents, siblings and I think maybe grandparents), and we would have had to already be married, or else prove that we intended to marry within 90 days after I entered Canada. When I applied in 2003, under the rules at the time he couldn't have qualified to sponsor me anyway.

It is nice that they let me into their house, but I've stayed for ca. 1 month twice before, so I think they think of this as an extended visit. Rob is hardly ever here anyway. It's not a question of not getting along, really. We all stay out of each others' way for the most part. It's a lot less annoying than all the times I didn't have a car, for one thing.

Oooh, that means you'll be getting two Thanksgivings! :D

You moved to Ontario, right?

Realistically, I probably only get one (October) due to the expense of flying and the fact that it might be hard to go at a time when I don't have a holiday.

Yes, a place called Kitchener which is near Toronto.

Just to soothe your ego, here's at least one Californian who knew all of that except the last point. I kind of assumed you were living with [livejournal.com profile] enotsola. Heck, I still suspect that's the case, but maybe you mean that you eventually intend to move back out into your own place?

And I'm assuming that you have enough money to live on for a few months? (Maybe not "assuming", maybe more like "I deduce from the lack of panic about money issues in your recent posts"...)

And, BTW, congrats on making this huge move. Having done one from Washington DC to SF nearly 11 years ago, I know how big an undertaking like that is... and I was staying in the same country! You had to deal with immigration hassles, too. My hat's off to you.

Yay, someone was paying attention. *chuckles* just seemed that for a while there I was getting "Huh? I thought you had gone to Canada" before I had left, and "whoa! When did you go to Canada?" after I was here.

I kind of assumed you were living with [info]enotsola. Heck, I still suspect that's the case, but maybe you mean that you eventually intend to move back out into your own place?

I mean that he and I intend to move into our own place. Living with [livejournal.com profile] enotsola is living with his parents and brother, you see. But first we both need incomes that can support rent. He's been working part-time at Best Buy for the past six months which doesn't cut it, but despite a college diploma (read: basically an AA degree) apparently he can't qualify for very much in IT around here. Me, as mentioned I don't have an SIN yet so can't legally work at the moment.

And I'm assuming that you have enough money to live on for a few months?

Well, if I drained my savings totally dry I could probably live for a year, but obviously I want to preserve as much of that as possible for things like future house down payment, retirement investment, etc.

Whoa. Best of luck in getting everything together and having a lovely time in the land of Mounties. ;)

Does this mean you'll get free health care now?

Date: May. 31st, 2006 04:50 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] starlightforest.livejournal.com
Not until August. BC and Ontario both have a three-month waiting period before you are eligible for provincial health coverage. And it's not a comprehensive package - it's only basic and emergency medical. You still have to buy prescription, dental and vision coverage yourself, or else get them from an employer benefits package (which also often offer better medical services as well, just like in the US).
