Some really beautiful aurora photographs from a recent big display ("A coronal mass ejection hit Earth on Dec. 14th, sparking a severe (Kp=8) geomagnetic storm and auroras seen as far south as Arizona."): http://spaceweather.com/aurora/gallery_01dec06_page4.htm

"Oooo! Ahhh!"
I'm going to make the first one into an icon or something.
I have never seen the Northern Lights and I would love to someday!

Want to see the Northern Lights irl. In the meantime, I always enjoy the pictures. :) Thanks.

I saw an auroral display once in Kitchener in the summertime, but it wasn't anything this dramatic and colourful. It was more like one of those plasma/lightning balls that you can get in novelty shops, except much fainter, all a very pale bluish silver, and spread over a large arc of the sky. Or sort of like if you flambe something with brandy, and the way the flames look just as they are dying out, fading in and out in places and pale blue.
