http://www.patheos.com/community/paganportal/2011/10/16/the-rise-of-the-working-poor-occupy-wall-street-goes-global/ - post from Star Foster. Some interesting comments.
http://blogs.villagevoice.com/runninscared/2011/10/kristen_christian_bank_boycott_bank_transfer_day_occupy_wall_street.php - I've actually been contemplating what this movement or boycott or whatever you want to call it suggests for some time (to pull my remaining money out of Wells Fargo and put it in my credit union; currently it's split about 30/70, I think), but not particularly because of ideological reasons or annoyance with increasing fees. (I usually have enough on deposit that I escape them, so they're mostly invisible to me, although that might change soon... better reread the latest dispatch from them.) Rather, simply because my credit union offers better interest rates. Not great (is there any such thing these days?), but better, as in existent, whole numbers in front of the decimal point instead of fractions of a percent that are just about as good as sticking it under the mattress.
(Odd logo:

I mean, I get it - November 5th and all - but still, strange to see the American flag combined with a V mask.)

Date: Oct. 17th, 2011 08:31 pm (UTC)From:Yes, that's what I meant about having to re-read their latest dispatch, because I think I still fall in the category of having enough on deposit to waive the fees, but it might affect our joint checking now that I think of it. There's some kind of proviso about "...but not if you have at least 3 accounts which total X and have a direct deposit of over $X a month" (I think they're raising what that has to be, but my paycheck is still over it).
