Interesting idea, and I appreciate the sympathetic-magic aspect of having such an event in Philadelphia. Wonder if it'll actually go off.

My first thought was, "that was clearly written by someone who has never experienced a local GA." I'm a big fan of consensus process and direct democracy, and yet, the very idea of such a thing at that scale makes me shudder. I'm a cynical veteran of too many consensus-run annual organizational meetings.

However, the truly evil voice in my head wants to hear such a meeting conducted via the People's Mic.

Yeah, a general assembly for July 4th, 2012 is probably going to be a mess. Nobody is as stupid as all of us together.

I should mention that I hadn't seen the declaration yet, and helped spread the word. Granted, I also disagree with about three quarters of it, but the one quarter I do agree with - neither of the other political parties will ever touch. :) Thank you for helping spread the word.
