OMG. Absolutely stunning photos of coloured smoke. Found this when messing around rewriting the modules for our library's "2.0" project.

How was this image produced? Is a certain substance being burned? Is it digital art? Either way, it's very pretty.

I don't know, he doesn't say. I'm inclined to think maybe lighting, but I'm not sure.

It is simply incense (josh stick) smoke shot on a black background then inverted in photoshop, create layer mask the adjust hue/saturation and if you wish create multiple layer masks for different colours.

Trick for clarity of smoke is to pump alot of light from the back.
