I would argue that ownership by/in an unpleasant state is pretty tame compared to Facebook's deep exploitation of billions of people's personal lives. At least the former is pretty blunt and clunky about it's malevolence (and people actually act when news comes out about it partly because Russia has an inherent 'eww' factor to westerners). c:
