Last night I was watching Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey, after watching Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure (both of which I received on DVD from [livejournal.com profile] enotsola for Christmas - yay!). Both are understandably extremely lean on extras. On Bogus Journey there was a "Behind-the-Scenes Featurette" which mostly consisted of Alex Winter (Bill) and Keanu Reeves (Ted - surely everyone knew that?) saying silly stuff in response to interview questions which were displayed as voiceovered "slates" rather than hearing them directly asked. The last question was something like "Will Wyld Stallyns finally get to rock?" and these were the responses (slightly misquoted on the longer phrases):

Alex: Let's just say you'll be treated to a musical... potpourri.
Keanu: Extravaganza.
Alex: Cornucopia.
Keanu: Nebuchadnezzar.
Alex: Aw, you win, dude. You get my lunch.

I swear to $DEITY: Nebuchadnezzar, although he mispronounced it as nay-boo-CHAD-nez-zar, soft "ch".

My local paper, the San Jose Mercury, invites "one-liner" letters to the editor. Today there was one which read (slightly misquoted): "From my experience with trying to contact government agencies by telephone, I have come to the conclusion that we are governed by answering machines." I was amused by this, but I think it would have been better to say computerized menu trees or voicemail systems, since, after all, "answering machine" implies getting an answer of some kind.

I have, like, no voice. This sucks. My job involves a lot of talking that I can't really take care of any other way. I have to say things the students wouldn't know how to say, especially trying to interpret from gestures; fuck writing everything down. So I'm still talking despite not being able to talk. Ow. [livejournal.com profile] enotsola, you know how I sounded on Tuesday, mostly just congested? Well now it's... laryngitisal.

...Sure, that's a word. Me, last night, to mom's Needleworkers' Guild friends over for klatch last night, when one of them was stumbling over swing/swung/swang: "English grammar is as flexible as English spelling, especially in the Middle Ages." Although I must say that "laryngitisal" puts me in mind of both Python's "Medical Love Song" and the MST3K song "Tubular Boobular Joy", itself obviously a takeoff on "Bibbity-Bobbity-Boo" from Disney's Cinderella:

It's breastica-boob-ical, chestica-mamm-ical,
Pendular, globular fun!
Flesh-ical, orbital, mound-ular, scoop-ular?
Right-o! That's the one!
Is it gluteal maximal, tush-ital, crack-ular,
Bun-ular, morning 'til night?
Well, you're abso-to-glandular fanny fantastical
Masta-ca-flesh-ular right!

It's and area-logical, auto-erotical, tubular boob-ular joy!
An expose-ular regional, batch-ular pouch-ular fun for girl and boy!
A latisima-dorsical, hung-like-a-horse-ical, calipa-ligical ball!

A most bun-ular, fun-ular
Fruit of the Loom-ular
French-ical tongue-ular
Wha-bidda-boob-ular
Moooovieeee of them alllllllllll!!!!!
Hey!

Does anyone know why the timestamps on my entries (and those of others) are properly respective local time, but the timestamps on comments are apparently GMT? Has this always been and I'm just unobservant? or is something screwy around here?

I'm having too much silly fun with this gothic domain name generator. The source elements seem to be superior to other such name generators. For example:

bewitchingcatacombs.net
ravaged-cellar.com
deadlytalons.net
darksometwilight.com
moribundsin.com
abyssalfugue.net (my favourite so far)

etc. I find they make good random mixtape titles.

Woot! In addition to an appearance at Pantheacon, there are two RJ Stewart workshops in Santa Cruz and two in Berkeley which I can attend this year! (There's another which happens to be over the same weekend I will be at Walking the Thresholds.) Generally, in the past, all the workshops seem to have been in places quite inaccessible to me given the amount of money I already spend on travelling, the hassle of needing time off work to get there and get home, not having been able to rent a car, etc. So woo!

Now, I seriously doubt I will be planning to go to all four. That would cost $720 (!). But I really think I should go to at least one.

I'm very amused by this goth parody of the ever-famous Jack Chick tract "Dark Dungeons". I was at first confused by the mention of Epsilon Minus, who in my mind (though I may be behind the times now) are (were?) a fairly obscure Toronto-area goth band, but then I noticed it was on EM's own site. Heh. The use of the term "pwned" also made me blink, as the only context I had heretofore heard of for that was via [livejournal.com profile] enotsola's mention of its use in the MMORPG Redmoon, but I suppose the term's usage is more widespread than that. (I guess it's also possible the maker of this parody plays Redmoon.)

'What's your place in hell' quiz. )
