Feb. 1st, 2011 01:23 pmAmazing World of Insect-Wing Color Discovered
Until now, the wing colors of many flies and wasps were dismissed as random iridescence. But they may be as distinctive and marvelous as the much-studied, much-celebrated wings of butterflies and beetles. ... Generations of biologists seem to have missed this partly because they didn’t look for it, and partly because the colors are most evident against a dark background. Against a white background, they’re invisible — which is exactly how most entomologists study transparent wings.

Nom, this place sounds good. I don't think I've been anywhere they actually serve hikarimono (which I'd like to at least try, although I'm a bit skeptical of fish like mackerel), and it's refreshing that the menu isn't full of unagi (which I hate), I imagine because (as I hear) it's one of the worst sushi fishes for sustainability. And I don't think I've seen a multi-veggie roll like that anywhere, and as much as I like fish and rice I often feel like I'm not eating enough green things when I have sushi. Might even be worth a special trip up to the city for (well, probably want to plan more than just a dinner, but still).

Interesting article that explains a possible etymology of the name "Imbolc" as "butter of wolves". (The thing about washing or purifying with milk is interesting; I picked that up myself somewhere along the line, I think possibly from Kisma Stepanich-Reidling? when I was on a list she ran...)
