If they were finite and abelian, then it'd be good, because we can easily classify all such. Infinite and non-abelian is where the problem's at.

*chuckles* most of what you just said went waaay over my head. Can we stick to "real" and "imaginary"? (they're certainly complex...)

Actually, I don't know how to solve any of that any more either. It's been, uh. thirteen years since I was in an algebra class of any kind? (and we're talking high school intermediate algebra) Ten since I was in my last math class period, which was basic integral calculus. Since I've used none of it in the meantime it's all left me.
