arethinn: Bastian from the Neverending Story with book, text "can't talk, dorking" (geeky (bastian dorking))
Okay doods, help requested. Rec me some blogs that are good for general examples of what they look like, what you can do with them, what they can be about. (Yes, I know: anything. But this is for an "introduction to blogging and how to set up your own" class.) I thought I could mine my RSS list for candidates, but it turns out I mostly subscribe to webcomic feeds, fanfiction, library blogs (almost good, but a little too specific), and some pagan and faery stuff, none of which are really suitable for this application. (Hmm... turning a roomful of middle-aged, culturally vanilla techno-greenies into Harry Potter slash fans...? naaahhhh.)

ETA: What I am going for is to have examples of various types... e.g. here's a personal blog, here's a tech information blog, here's a news blog, here's a blog on some other topic... maybe I will include one of the library ones.

As I'm guessing that this might be vaguely related to library science somehow, may I suggest some published authors and agents?

Wil Wheaton is another good example.

I read everything as RSS feeds on LJ, so I don't (have to) see other people's (possibly hideous) web design and tools.

If the intention is to educate people about blogging, you may wish to refer people to some blogs about blogging. I subscribe to a few of these, because I'm interested in the possibility of becoming a professional blogger. A couple of these are

http://www.copyblogger.com/
and
http://www.problogger.net/

Depending on the project you're working on, these may qualify as "useful resources" or "competition". :D Problogger in particular has a nice "For Beginners" section -- on the front page, below the video post, in the "Best of Problogger" section, there's a tab for it.

There're a few personal productivity blogs I like, including

http://www.stevepavlina.com/
and
http://zenhabits.net/

Hope that helps. :)

News blog: Internet Storm Center (http://isc.sans.org/)

How-to blog: Lifehacker (http://lifehacker.com/)

News aggregator: Homeland Security (http://www.homelandsecurityx.com/index.shtml)

Spin doctoring: Evolution of Security (http://www.tsa.gov/blog)

Oh, and my site (http://drwho.virtadpt.net/) might fit in there somewhere.
