Born US citizens: Think you could pass your own country's citizenship test? Try it. (that's not the best one but it was the easiest to futz with online that I found - ignore the fact that the rest of the site is in Spanish, lol) Actually, I hope everyone reading this would handily be able to say "yes" (I got 20/20 four times running, myself, before I got bored), but I'm sure there's thousands and thousands of high school graduates - and worse, voting adults (well, possibly voting) - who couldn't say the same. Blerg.

If anyone's wondering why I was going down this road in the first place, it's because I was searching for online practice versions of the Canadian citizenship test. I poked at one I found from some library in BC, and I was actually able to pass, even without having any real clue (or maybe it's just that I care more than "not at all" and have therefore picked up some information). All I didn't know was the local-specific stuff like who-the-heck-ever-it-was that was the premier of BC.

Well, I only took it three times, but I got 20/20 each time, does that count?

It just means you had a lower threshold of boredom for it, I guess. :)

I also had that lower boredom threshold. And I have a serious quibble with their question about "what was the major message of the Declarationof Independence" - the answer they want is obviously, "all men are created equal", but I'd say the major message of the thing is "screw you; we're revolting". Or, if you want the major philosophical message, I'd put that as: "Governments do not derive their authority from God; the 'divine right of kings' is a crock. Governments derive their authority from the consent of the governed, and rebellion against an unjust authority is a human right and duty, not a crime."

The bit about all men being equal was just an opening step in the logical chain they went through on their way to the main point.

I missed one. But I plead poor phrasing in translating Spanish to English; the question "What were the 13 original states of the U.S. called?" should be "What were the first 13 states originally called?"

20/20

But daymn, they need a grammer expert on that quiz something fierce.

Yeah, I know. I get the feeling it was somewhat inexpertly translated from the Spanish, or something. If that's the English original... then eek.

Yeah, okay, so I don't know how many members there are in the House. I shouldn't have changed that answer, I had it right the first time (435 or something)... Sigh. Otherwise, I rock!

Well, that's not so bad, since it's not a set number and has changed over the years. I was amused at some of the answers for "why are there 100 senators", like "that's the seating capacity". lol.

Yeah, I got 20/20 the one time I took it.

There was a few that I thought were tricky though (not very tricky, but definitely tough for anyone who is not familiar with history...).

Heh. 17/20. Not bad for an F-1 visa.
