WTH weather? I was confused enough when it splattered rain on and off and there was a lightning stroke as I was driving [livejournal.com profile] enotsola home from the airport tonight, but it's apparently forecast to be similar weather for several days?

Trust me, this is not normal for us. This is not a time of year we get four days of rain predicted; June through October or November are generally dry and it's rare even to have a late straggler of a light shower this late in the year. And thunderstorms are unusual period, because usually when it's wet here, it's too cold to also foster thunder conditions. Occasionally we will get one in a severe winter storm, but it's rare. We don't have four days in a row thought likely to have thunderstorms. We just don't, especially not in early summer.

Climate change, wot?

I still say that it followed me home.

California could use some water, at least.

No kidding, but it's still pretty abnormal.

eh, when we do get lighting, it is most often in the summer--
-July thunderstorms, with Real rain are not unknown. Not Common, mind you, but they happened even when I was a kid.

July thunderstorms, with Real rain are not unknown.

They're essentially unknown in my lifetime (that is, in my memory), which isn't any 100 years I suppose, but is nearly 31 years. I was pretty boggled the time a few years ago when we had hail in July. I'm used to day after day of hot and dry.

Not common, in fact, uncommon enough to be Memorable--but not 'freaky' either.
There is no such thing as an 'average year' each one has its own peculiarity. Bell curves contain extreams, so do averages

..Now, 'average temperature', we get that a lot. Many places have the same Average as us, but around here it is often the Actuall temperature as well.

Oh, so it's you guys who stole our cool rain! It's been in the upper 80s to low 90s here - which isn't supposed to happen until August. This had better just be a heat wave and not the start of a desert-type summer. *dies*

Climate change indeed.

I'm currently in the small town of Debden Saskatchewan, northers prairie country. We had snow on May 20th, and frost Monday night (it dipped to about -3 C). When talking to the locals here, they were saying it's been at least 15 degrees below normal on average... for the entirety of May...

What's your email address now? We're having a party this upcoming Saturday and would like you to come, and the one I had for you is bouncing. We don't live in RWC anymore, so don't go there!

I screened the other reply as I'd rather not have those emails just floating around in the open. :)
