You know something, I am Really, Really Tired of having some idea or thing that I think is cool, and wanting to show it off, and getting reactions ranging from "oh, whatever" to an active shooting-down by some Big Gun Who Knows What They Are Talking About (I mean, someone I perceive this way, as opposed to just "by popular opinion").

That's about how I felt with the Burningman crowd.

What was your cool idea that nobody was hot for?

I don't really remember. I was at a few planning meetings for Disturbia, a camp that debuted in '98. I got shot down very quickly and harshly - rather than saying "that wouldn't work due to the enviornment" I got "you haven't been so you don't know what you're talking about".

===Ignore them and do it anyway...If you feel the pull, and it is true...then they can cope.

Well, what I'm referring to is a reply on FAE when I posted my "Legends" thing (wondering what the response would be there, since it's an audience almost wholly exclusive of that on Elven Realities and KinFrontiers), which shot it down as incompatible with serious spiritual inquiry into oneself, because this is not a game or entertainment, and he finds the concept "insulting and absurd"; therefore "storytelling and playing pretend" only hinders true self-discovery and gives basis for people who think we're roleplayers who forgot to stop the game, and he would prefer that lists or boards which have a sense of "place" would not exist, because they are "immature", foster "non-serious minds" and "childish flights of fancy".

So yeah, I'm pretty hurt. It's like, fuck it. Clearly I am merely childish and stupid.

===Actually, I think the idea is rather well thought out, and nicely done.

===Sounds like the person does not actually understand how to use excellent tools.

===The problem is not withthe tools, it is in how some peopel use them. It is good to know that they are unable ot use the tools, and are keeping themselves from temptation.

===Keep up the good work...(smile)

Thanks, that's good to hear.

I suppose the lesson is to stay out of the kitchen if I can't stand the heat, since I am, shall we say, quite flammable, to extend the metaphor... (not possessed of strong convictions that anything I do or think is "right and good".)

Consider the source.

To put it bluntly, I see that reaction as being very similar to the reaction of those in their early teens to doing anything that classifies as "kids stuff."

In that case, they think that in order to be considered adults, they have to chuck everything that goes with being a kid. In this, it seems that to be taken seriously, they think they need to chuck everything that could be considered fun.

(First, did you see my post in question, for the context? I think I put you in my "otherkin" filter. It was last night, titled "Legends of Ourselves". Let me know if you could or couldn't see it.)

I think that thinking of what I'm talking about as "possibly fun" is a bit of an error in itself... like a glamourbomb, for example, the sort of stories and exchanges in a "special place" that I'm taking about could be uplifting and a bit escapist, but that's not where their essence should lie. I'm trying to get at a deeper mode of expression and experience.

Thanks for the input.

I don't have a choice. I have to like what you're saying on the subject.

Making Myth the way you seem to be talking about is a huge part of Irish lore and history, and I often wonder how big a part the Tuatha de Danaan and/or the Sidhe (if they're separate races) had in encouraging that activity. Some of the legends seem to indicate they participated in it themselves and with a great deal of enthusiasm.

I don't know how you'll take this. I don't mean to be negative in any way. Perhaps you can try not to put so much belief into some big guns knowing much of anything.

P.S: I really like the new name you're using. (Ivy Tanith Ullanna, just to be clear.)

:-)

You mean, the TDD encouraging the human storytellers (whatever you wish to call them) into making myth about themselves (the TDD)? That sounds interesting.

Agreeing with those above, follow it through anywho. If we all gave up when criticized, nothing original would be done. Sure, it can get tough wading through a sea of naysayers and 'experts' but y'know... that's how new things are found... by wandering out where no one else will.
