Pan's Labyrinth

(Or see the Wild Hunt blog entry if you'd rather not load what looks like a media-heavy site right off.)

Wow, definitely worth seeing. If this film is actually good, it looks likely to be actually in the same genre as Labyrinth, instead of a completely failed attempt like the wretchedness that was Mirrormask.

Hmmm, I kind of thought those two were in the same genre - same general type of story, albeit executed completely differently (me review (http://ellyssian.livejournal.com/189195.html).) This one looks to be a lot darker, possibly even a horror film, although hopefully a well done one.

My thoughts on Mirriromask can be found here.. I disliked it for much the same reason that I liked Labyrinth.

I wish they would explore fantasy themes like this without sinking into horror. Horror wrecks everything.

I'm not a big fan of horror per se (there's only a very narrow niche of horror that I like, and anything "slasher" is definitely right out), but I usually think of horror as the dark side of fantasy. Dreams and nightmares, you know. What about horror "wrecks" fantasy for you (if you can put it into words)?

Looks interesting... thanks for pointing it out!

I'm so excited about this film. I love del Toro's 'Devil's Backbone', his spanish language films are always much better than his hollywood ones.
In Hellboy there is a brief glimpse of some pickled faeries in a jar, and on the commentary he mentions his next film is dealing with his views on faeries and fairytales (which I suppose must be Pans Labyrinth).

Thanks for posting this. Looks like something I will definitely have to see.
