arethinn: Alice in Wonderland upside down (weird (alice upside down))
I'm sure many of you have seen posts of fashion disasters from 70s catalogs and magazines, but this post on Visual News today had some new ones on me. Urge to riff... rising...

"Also Misses"? Yes, yes it sure does:

"Let my fashions SHOW your man WHERE to look!" Because he couldn't possibly have figured that out without these little numbers:

(Is the gal bottom-center there perhaps an evolutionary ancestor of modern Disastera photoshopia?)

Now here's a pulp sleaze novel name if I ever heard one:

and lastly:

What, like beat me up in a dark alley and damage my eyesight (not to mention my sanity)?

LOL, just...WHAT. :D That shirt looks like the castaway cousin of a hot air balloon! And I bet those pants are attached. Oh yeah...

I remember all these sorts of ads in the original magazines and papers--the trampy tops one (most likely for Frederick's of Hollywood) was for something no one would wear at that time for everyday, then something people would wear for disco and rock concerts, and now they're modest compared to mainstream! They were usually next to wig ads that showed the same sort of females and the same sort of styles, and promised your man would notice you and maybe mistake you for Zsa Zsa Gabor and Liz Taylor, and that that would be a good thing--

Boy, does it ever...

Picture 2, Image D: "Afternoon Delight"

... Wow. Really?

Picture 3

Heh... you're right, it does sound like some dirty pulp novel.

Picture 4

Nik-Nik? Sounds like the old ads for Nickelodeon... Nick-Nick-Nick-Nick, NickNick-Nick-Nick, Nickelodeon!

Yeah. Does a woman really wanna walk around basically saying, "Yes, I love afternoon quickies!"?

>.< I like most of the women's fashions. Especially the first one!

The only ones I don't like are Picture 2, B & D.

I totally want a Nik-Nik.

In pic 3, the belted sweater in the topmost pic actually looks sort of cool (to me at least), I'd happily wear it, and might consider the other sweater in that pic and the yellow and white pullover in the middle of pic 3. OTOH, the sweater with built in vest next to it is pretty darn dire and the shirt in pic 4 - wow, scary, scary 70s - that's rhinestone bellbottoms level scary.

Pic 1 isn't that bad, except for the color and the lapels that look ready to take flight.
