elf alert?
May. 14th, 2004 01:43 pmI swear there's an elf sitting on that computer over there *points through my cubicle wall to station A1*. When he came in here a couple days ago I got a really weird ping-deep-cold sensation when I happened to catch his eyes for a second. On the other hand, maybe I'm making a mistaken assumption and all I'm getting (if in fact anything, and not just my head being crazy) is "powerful human", not "elf" at all. Other things are confusing the situation, such as his being tall and relatively slender and having long hair.
1) What is the wildest weather/natural disaster you've ever lived through?
Probably the 1989 earthquake. I recall standing in the doorway between the kitchen and dining room and sticking out an arm to try to hold up the 40-gallon fish tank which used to be right there.
2) What natural disaster stands out in your mind as the worst in your lifetime and why?
Same, not because of anything that happened in my area, but because of the whole "upper deck of Cypress structure (piece of freeway) collapsing onto lower deck and squishing some cars and people" thing.
3) What's your favorite sort of dramatic weather?
I don't like "dramatic" weather very much. I think I've mostly gotten over my fear of thunderstorms, but that's not to say that I actually like them. Heavy rain is all right, but I wouldn't say it was a "favourite". Nor do I like high winds. We don't get snow here so I can't really say what I would think about a blizzard.
4) What do you like the least about your particular environment, weather-wise?
Least? Hm... it's hard not to like the weather where I am. There's a reason this is one of the densest population centres in the world. Maybe the long summers and short autumns. That is to say, the summer tends to drag on a bit, since it usually takes up about six months of the year.
5) If you had to choose between a climate that was too hot half the year or too cold, which would it be?
Too cold. I find it easier to get warm than to cool off.

(this is essentially rhetorical - much more a statement of feeling than an actual request. in fact i would feel very creeped-out if any of you said yes, with precious few exceptions.)

(Not that I follow hockey, it's just been all over the local paper for the past few days. In fact, I find it very hard to follow hockey, especially when I catch bits of sportcasting on KFOX when I turn on my car radio as I leave work and it happens to have been tuned to that station from my morning drive. I need to see what's happening to have any clue, and that really goes for any sport.)
