Feb. 9th, 2006 10:33 amJust for today I will not correct anyone unless they ask to be corrected; I will eschew the starter "Actually..." from my vocabulary.
Just for today I will not volunteer negative opinions, and if I am asked, I will list as few details as possible.
Yar, there was a third one last night, but it's not coming back to me now. Five Principles for Virgos, anyone?

Feb. 9th, 2006 12:00 pmFor a minute there, with a phrase like "Ink-jet safe ham steaks", it seemed like R. Stevens had been reading about tissue printers on Technovelgy! (And of course the example meat there is also pork. Hee.)

The weekend before last, Gems Galore was having some kind of new-ownership sale were a lot of stuff was 30% off, so I planned to come back and pick up some stuff the following week. The sale wasn't on anymore, so I had about 3x worth the amount of money I could spend in stuff in my basket, and whittling down was needed. What I ended up with, going by the "which ones of these are the priorities of the I'm Supposed to Have This list" method, was a twinned amethyst crystal, some kind of cluster of something which is gold-treated or something and has a dark purple/pink/yellow/blue flash in it ("dark faerie fire", it makes me think), a chunk of tumbled green fluorite, a small piece of tumbled sugilite, a piece of tumbled bloodstone, and a small flat cluster of small crystals of clear quartz. I knew why I was picking the amethyst (twinned crystals = "soulmate" crystals + violet = duh) and the bloodstone (supposed to "purify" the blood, which has some different meanings for me than it might for most people). I had to look up possible uses for the sugilite and fluorite (although I knew basicially that the one pops up a lot in crystal-spiritual-healing whatever contexts, and fluorite is mental/intellectual):
"[Fluorite's] greatest gift to us, though, is its ability to help us connect mind to spirit. It does so by helping to neutralize persistent and unwanted thought patterns so that the mind, instead of keeping itself distracted by constant activity, much of which is resistance to these undesired thoughts, can be at peace." Of course they don't describe green specifically (wtf "sometimes in green and pink"? the most common fluorite I see besides purple is green, or purple and green combined) but to me green says Heart.
"Sugilite (also known as luvulite and royal lazel), an opaque purple-to-magenta stone, relates to the discovery and release of the beliefs which inhibit spontaneous mental and physical health. Sugilite helps us to see the beliefs ("I always resent people like that;" "There's just so much I'm capable of doing") that can create emotional limitation and physical imbalance, and helps to break up those beliefs on the mental plane, thus stopping them from continuing to send limiting messages to the body."

Feb. 9th, 2006 01:02 pmThe number 283 has been popping out at me a lot today, in the form of total number of pages in books that I am cataloging (it's one of the factors I have to check to determine if a book matches the OCLC record we are proposing to download). So my first thought as this is not a "master number" or anything like that was gematria.
Here's a list of some Hebrew equivalents:
Ark of Jehovah.
to bind, to be hard, strong; cypress, gopher-tree.
to seize, grasp.
treasured gold.
memorial; record, account.
a seed.
pr. n. "Crusher", Nergal, a god of the Cuthites thought to be representative of the planet Mars.
silver of dross (unrefined silver).
pr. n. "Helper".
pr. n. "Calves' Fount", (well in Moab on east shore of the Dead Sea).
I'm intrigued that it is both "treasured gold" and "unrefined silver". Hm.
And some in English, although I am not certain what numerological method they are using to calculate the value of these words:
Agorae, Admiral, adore, Afterlife, Aftermath, Amanuensis, Assimilates, Appendant, Appending, Appends, Argot, Barking, Barks, Busier, Buries, Bureaus, Births, Bearish, Bellbird, Belongings, Bookmaking, Braking, Bramble, Bruise, Gaberdine, Gastraea, Glossing, Gnomon, Gourd, Grafting, Grafts, Groat, Darken, Diffuseness, Debaser, Dermal, Drilled, hearts, Hero, Hoer, Utopians, Unassuming, Unthread, Urbanite, Urease, Uredinia, Ingather, Earths, Eterne, Ellipses, Embarked, Embitter, Endeared, Entree, Epiglottis, Taunter, Tanbark, Tarbush, Tinter, Teener, Temptation, Topgallant, Tragedian, Trainee, Trueing, Trues, Trod, Faders, Ferine, fresh, Frog, Lanuginous, Limitedness, Majesties, Markkaa, Medlar, Mesothelium, Sabered, Sapodilla, Saponated, Sharif, Summation, Sigher, Siree, Stanhope, Steepening, Snapped, Solstitial, Oared, Omentums, Oread, Pumpkin, Rabato, Ranked, Rubies, Rushed, Retinae, Retene, refine, Renigged, Reseau
Not so interesting, heheh. Yesterday I was randomly reading a bunch of stuff on Judaism so I am slightly inclined to the former list fitting into the pattern better, but then I am also a bit averse to trying to apply to myself ideas from a mystical tradition from a culture and language I don't have any part of.

Feb. 9th, 2006 01:09 pmAmusement pursuant to my last entry (which many of you will not have seen): Dig the words appearing with the highest values at the very end of this list of English gematria. For example: "1918: Irrevocably, Spectrophotometry, Zealotry". Of course all these numbers are also calendrical years, but there's too many per number until somewhere ca. 1100 for it to really be very practical to sit down and try to correspond the words to events or themes of the year, heh. (2006: Hydrometallurgy, Otolaryngology, Reverberatory!)

Feb. 9th, 2006 06:34 pmI've been doing reasonably well on exercise bits throughout the day. I realized that I can't just say "I'll walk every day", I have to precisely schedule myself as to when I'm going to do it - such as "I'll walk 10 minutes at 12:15, at 2:30, and at 4:45." I don't stick exactly to this in practice, but it lets me know when I'm supposed to, and I don't feel lost not knowing how to put everything together. (I'm not doing so well with the 20-30 minutes of stationary cycling 5-7 times a week, more like 2 times a week so far, but I'm working on that. It's harder for me to do that since it's at home rather than at work. I know that sounds backwards but it's the way it is.) So if I am ever really going to get with a program of daily spiritual work, I need to make myself a schedule for that too. When I just try to go with "I know I need to do these things every day, or most days" I tend to do it for a little while and then peter out because I haven't set any particular time for myself. I need that kind of structure for non-supervised activities (i.e., where scheduling is not being dictated by circumstances or someone else); I can't do whatever, whenever or I tend not to do it at all.
