[livejournal.com profile] stillvisions just referred to yesterday as Metric Thanksgiving. LOL. I'd never have thought of that. Much better than Amerigo Vespucci Day. Must file away for future use.

the new-awakened wind
brings me brown and brittle companions--
the cast-offs of the trees--
who sport about my ankles
and rush me from behind
with a strange and perfect merriment.

OMG. Absolutely stunning photos of coloured smoke. Found this when messing around rewriting the modules for our library's "2.0" project.

this is this curling light and power in the hills
that i see and i know and remember

Thanks to the astute suggestion of [livejournal.com profile] laurel_tx, I now has a pumpkin ale!

p.s. She also makes great funny icons, mostly for Harry Potter, but also some other fandoms (I've spotted Heroes, Who, and X-Men). If you care about that kind of thing you should check her out.

the stars in the clouds
my sisters, my friends!
you drive the night-winds that tangle the hair
the moon our young brother
lights up the sky-paths
leading the way to the goblins' fall Fair

Yes, I know it is a new moon and there is no lighting of sky-paths going on right now. The phase of the moon is one of those things I am pretty much constantly aware of. Just a little word picture, ok? Those seem to be assaulting me from multiple angles lately. Darker portion of the year (ca. October - February) tends to agree with me energetically and produce more blithering.

I don't get it. What's so special about most Photoshop brushes that you have to download them (and be protective of them if you've made them)? As far as I can tell, making a brush is as easy as:

1. Make a cool scribble.
2. Select Edit > Define Brush Preset...
3. Profit!

I mean, unless I were doing a theme where I wanted a whole series to have an identical element -- and you know, you can achieve the same thing by simply copying a layer or bundle of layers from one document to another -- it would seem to me that using a brush would give an undesirable monotony to the decorative aspects of one's icons, and that it would be better (art-ethically) to do each one by hand, so each one would be its own little craftwork (Kraftwerk?).

This is not really a slam on people who DO do this, I just don't get why brush packages and stuff are so hip that there are entire communities just for that.
