News post about the hideous new friends-reading page, in optional beta now, but I assume it will be forced on all of us soon. Please to tell them how you feel about it? (I hope most people agree with me that it is a big ugly DO NOT WANT and another example of LJ trying to be other services, like Facebook and Tumblr, rather than sticking to its original guns.)

Is it just me, or is this nothing more than "we're going to ignore your CSS and use our own instead"?

Apparently there is a backend reason for it, which is that it is pretty much impossible to introduce any new features or otherwise re-code anything for friends pages without breaking (to a greater or lesser degree) any arbitrary number of the zillions of different styles out there. Patching them individually is just not workable, hence the decision to force everyone to a single "site schemed" page. I guess I can understand that, but it still kinda sucks, because that customization is something many people pay for. Apparently they will introduce some control over colors and fonts, but it just doesn't sound like it's going to be anything like the fine control one can have now. (Maybe someone will Stylish something up...?)

It's painful to my eyes and I worry about it triggering migraines for me. Another user in a previous post mentioned that it would trigger her migraines and it's the reason she can't use a lot of social networking sites. All of the white is blinding.
