I've been getting a lot of email notifications of LJ comments marked as spam lately (SpamAssassin on my mail server is giving 6.2 points for "RCVD_IN_MSPIKE_L5 RBL: Very bad reputation (-5) [208.93.1.33 listed in bl.mailspike.net]", whatever that means exactly). If you seem to be missing notifications you might want to check your spam folder, if you can.

Sorry if I have seemed to be AWOL lately. I looked at my bookmarks yesterday and realized I haven't read this flist in more than a week. Work has been crazy with us packing about 2/3 of the library up to go to storage for the remodeling that will begin next month.

I saw this game at a local New Age bookshop last month. Looking at their website now clues me in to why they call themselves "See Through Games" -- they make pieces out of recycled clear resin -- but the one I saw at the store was made of sustainable woods.

The game board is a forest with four types of trees, each of which supports a forest spirit and a human. The two players are the Giver and the Taker. Only the Giver can win by bringing the four human pieces together "eye to eye", so the Taker is trying to become the Giver. The Giver can re-plant trees and the Taker can cut them down, which is involved in the mechanics of how the two players switch places.

The wood version was kind of expensive, IIRC (~$70?), but it looked very nice and I thought this game might appeal to some of you tree-huggers out there. ;)

Two nights of elderberry extract, echinacea-goldenseal-someotherstuff pills, tea, fire, and a warm Macbook in my lap (yay for long Ethernet cables; its AirPort can't hear Metrofi either, even at the extremity of the dining room closest to the transmitter without actually going outside) seem to have beaten the pathetic cold that dared to think it could get hold of my mucous membranes.

I have a seriously good record this year, for whatever reason. I was actually sick in February (at a time when I was doing job interviews yey), but have managed to beat everything else since then in under 72 hours. Since I work in a job that involves lots of touching objects that other people have touched, this is actually fairly impressive. The last time I worked here I got sick about four times a year.

Hand sanitizing gel. It works, people. And don't share drinking vessels. That's how I got sick in February, and I speculate it might have been where I got it this time (although the sake was quite good).

I hear tell today is [livejournal.com profile] uncledark's birthday. May the candles on your cake, cities, wake, etc etc.

I will be sending out holiday cards next week probably, so that those in far foreign lands (well, Nova Scotia, I think, is the furthest away; still, that'd be one tired distance-measuring crow) will hopefully get theirs at a reasonable time.

[livejournal.com profile] the_misha or [livejournal.com profile] tiggrrl, if you get a mo', I can has address, since I assume the one I have on file is not current?
